Update: April 17 training date has been added

The Nebraska MTSS Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (NPBIS) and Early Childhood teams will host two trainings on Prevent-Teach-Reinforce (PTR) and Prevent-Teach-Reinforce for Young Children (PTR-YC) on March 10 and April 17 (newly added) via Zoom video conferencing.

PTR and PTR-YC are Tier 3 interventions, as part of PBIS and Pyramid Model (PBIS for Early Childhood) implementation. They are a standardized, function-based model of PBIS for students with persistent and challenging behavior problems.

There is no cost to participate, but advance registration is required. Find more details below on how to participate.

Training dates and registration

  • March 10 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. CST (7:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. MST) – At capacity, registration closed
  • April 17 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. CST (7:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. MST)

Who is this training for?

This training is designed for schools or programs currently implementing PBIS and/or Pyramid Model at Tiers 1 and 2. It will be particularly helpful for behavior specialists, MTSS support personnel, instructional coaches, teachers and administrators who want to:

  • Increase their understanding of PTR/PTR-YC.
  • Learn how to use PTR forms.
  • Understand and describe the evidence-based practices in each PTR intervention category:
    • Prevent
    • Teach
    • Reinforce
  • Know how to collect and summarize progress monitoring data.

Why should you participate?

The Pyramid Model and PBIS are both essential parts of a multi-tiered system of support. Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (Pyramid/PBIS) are essential because students experience academic success when schools build CORE instructional practices and develop data-based interventions that are implemented uniformly by school staff members.

By the same token, students experience social, emotional and behavioral success when schools use data to build inclusive and equitable CORE social, emotional and behavioral practices; develop prevention activities; and implement high-quality interventions to meet students’ needs.

The framework for PBIS/Pyramid Model supports social, emotional and behavioral learning, starting with universal practices at the CORE. Tier 2 provides targeted support for students who are not successful with Tier 1 support alone. PTR and PTR-YC are research-proven models designed to support children who require more than Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports.

What’s required?

While there is no registration fee for this training, districts are encouraged to provide, at minimum, one set of manuals for each building that participates in the training.

The following manuals will be used in the training and can be purchased online from Brookes Publishing:
1. Prevent-Teach-Reinforce (PTR)
The School-Based Model of Individualized Positive Behavior Support, Second Edition

2. Prevent-Teach-Reinforce for Young Children (PTR-YC)
The Early Childhood Model of Individualized Positive Behavior Support, Second Edition
