Join Scott Eckman, State Personnel Development Grant and Nebraska Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (NPBIS) coordinator, Heather Robbins, NeMTSS system consultant, and the SEBL/PBIS Implementation Support team in a series of virtual trainings on PBIS Tier 2 data, systems and practices.

Why should you attend?

Tier 2 systems provide a layer of additional interventions that are aligned with Tier 1 practices such as explicit instruction of skills, opportunities to practice, and frequent feedback, to students needing additional support. Establishing a layered continuum of support through MTSS allows schools to efficiently and effectively determine which students are unsuccessful with Tier 1 supports alone, and provide the appropriate support to them.

What to expect

This training series will provide schools and districts with information on developing Tier 2 systems that provide behavioral practices for students within an MTSS framework. Topics covered include establishing processes, identifying practices, creating data decision rules for supports and progress monitoring.

District and building teams focusing on SEBL are encouraged to attend all three trainings, if possible. Instruction, guided practice and team planning time will be provided to help participants successfully build and implement effective Tier 2 practices to support student outcomes.

The training series includes three sessions:

1. Tier 2 Overview: Teams will learn the essential components of Tier 2 social, emotional, and behavioral supports within MTSS, including the use of data to identify students who are not successful with Tier 1 supports alone, and building a system that allows for efficient application of Tier 2 practices.
Date and time: Jan. 23, 2024 | 9:00 a.m – 12:00 p.m CST (8:00 a.m – 11:00 a.m. MST)

2. Tier 2 CICO: Check In/Check Out (Hawken, 2020) is a simple, evidence-based intervention that provides students with positive connections with adults, and increased feedback on their performance throughout the day. Teams will learn how to install CICO, the essential components of the intervention, and how to monitor student progress.
Date and time: Feb. 20, 2024 | 9:00 a.m – 12:00 p.m CST (8:00 a.m – 11:00 a.m. MST)

3. Tier 2 Beyond CICO: This training focuses on implementing additional Tier 2 supports with an emphasis on direct teaching of social and emotional skills and modifying interventions to meet student needs, including utilizing function-based thinking to determine appropriate support.
Date and time: April 24, 2024 | 9:00 a.m – 12:00 p.m CDT (8:00 a.m – 11:00 a.m. MDT)
