Program Description
"In all our lessons, students learn to practice what good readers do naturally, which is pay attention to every word, read with a high rate of accuracy, and use strategies for attacking unfamiliar and multisyllable words. Our lessons, Countdown, Blast, HD Word, Boost, and Blitz, explicitly teach phonemic awareness, phonics concepts and word attack skills. They also focus on reading accurately, which translates to better comprehension. The lessons are research based, multisensory, highly effective, and can be taught by a wide range of people, not just experienced literacy professionals." According to EdReport’s Science of Reading Snapshot, this program addresses 3/5 foundational literacy components for grades K-1, and 2/5 for grade 2.

Research & Evaluation
Research Summary
Literature review discovered several studies on schools using interventions from the Really Great Reading suite published on the Really Great Reading website and one masters thesis. The results of these studies showed statistically significant and non statistically significant gains in student reading skills, specifically in the areas of phonics, fluency, and accuracy. No peer-reviewed articles were found. Consequently, there is insufficient evidence to support Really Great Reading interventions at this time.
