Program Description
Amplify CKLA, the original Science of Reading program, puts research into action through explicit, systematic foundational skills instruction and a proven knowledge-building sequence. Developed in collaboration with education experts and practitioners, it follows the Core Knowledge Sequence, a content-specific, cumulative, and coherent approach that strengthens comprehension, improves reading outcomes, and helps close achievement gaps. The 3rd Edition enhances this sequence with high-quality texts and a broader range of perspectives across new and updated units. Students progress from simple to complex skills, beginning with phonological and phonemic awareness, and in Grades K–2 explicitly learn the 150 spellings for the 44 sounds of English through an intentional progression. New Grades 3–5 foundational skills instruction can support core lessons or serve as targeted intervention based on student needs.

Research & Evaluation
Research Summary
A literature review revealed two articles published by Amplify that highlighted efficacy studies the publisher conducted. The results of those studies showed that students using CKLA scored higher on standardized measures of reading, reading comprehension, decoding, phonemic awareness, and spelling than students not using CKLA. However, there were no peer-reviewed articles found and consequently, there is insufficient evidence to support this program's efficacy at this time.
