Overview

Social, Emotional and Behavioral Learning (SEBL) is the process of fostering social and emotional competencies among students and adults to create safe and supportive environments in which children and youth can have positive behavioral outcomes.

Research shows intentional implementation of SEBL:

  • Promotes safe learning environments and positive school climates that improve overall academic test scores and student behavior.
  • Advances equity through school-family-community partnerships, rigorous and meaningful curriculum and ongoing evaluation.

SEBL Support at a Glance

The Pyramid Model and Nebraska Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (NPBIS) are pathways to build safe and supportive environments through the NeMTSS Framework. With implementation support from SEBL specialists at the Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and Schools (CYFS), school teams focus on supporting the well-being and competence of adults on campus, and then focusing on students. The goal is to ensure each person has the tools they need to successfully navigate the expectations of school and life.
