Webinar: Secondary Adaptations for Check-In/Check-Out

The Nebraska MTSS team is excited to announce a new webinar to guide and support secondary educators and teams wishing to implement a Check-In/Check-Out system with students.

Check-In/Check-Out (CICO) is an evidence-based Tier 2 intervention that provides daily, scheduled connection and feedback between a student and staff members or facilitator/mentor with the goal of promoting positive social, emotional and behavioral skills. CICO provides additional structure, predictability and feedback for students.

The webinar is available now in our media library: Secondary Adaptations for Check-In/Check-Out

Who is the webinar for?

This webinar is intended for any secondary educator and is especially helpful for leadership teams, administrators, and other educational leaders to learn about CICO, how it may be adapted at the secondary level, and how to use it as part of Tier 2 Targeted supports.

What does the webinar cover?

Educators can expect to learn about:

  • Defining Check-In/Check-Out (CICO)
  • Identifying adaptations for high school implementation of CICO

Why does it matter?

Research suggests that implementing Check-In/Check-Out leads to positive outcomes such as increased adherence to behavior expectations, improved attendance, reduced office discipline referrals, and decreased rates of mild, low-level disruptive behaviors. Research also suggests CICO may lead to increased academic engagement and prosocial behaviors. This webinar will explore some different ways CICO can be adapted for secondary students.
