SEBL Overview
Within NeMTSS, social, emotional and behavioral learning (SEBL) specialists at the Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and Schools provide evidence-based professional development and implementation support to build educators’ capacity to practice, teach and model SEBL competencies among adults and students to improve school climate, culture and learning.
On Feb. 27, NeMTSS SEBL Specialists Emily Arkfeld, Jill Guenther and Mackenzie Riedel shared a brief SEBL Overview for teams interested in strengthening or beginning the process of implementing SEBL. The 60-minute virtual discussion covered SEBL and its importance, alignment between other multi-tiered system initiatives (e.g., PBIS/Pyramid Model/Comprehensive School Mental Health) and next steps to strengthen your system.
A video recording of the training is available on demand. Please reach out to your SEBL Specialists for more information at mtss-sebl@unl.edu.
Who is this overview for?
Is your school or district exploring the process of implementing SEBL into its current system and you aren’t sure where to start?
If your school or district is wanting to begin to systematically support SEBL, this overview would provide more information about SEBL and the process for future training and implementation support.
Is your district taking part in a comprehensive school mental health grant (commonly called Mental Health Institute)?
If your district has been or is currently part of the comprehensive school mental health grant, this overview would be a great opportunity to explore how you can align mental health systems to work within your existing systems, such as PBIS or MTSS.
What if our team has participated in SEBL workshops in the past?
Even if you have attended previous NeMTSS SEBL workshops, this overview would be valuable for teams who would like an SEBL “refresher” or who have experienced changes in team membership. It would also be beneficial for teams working to put together all-staff SEBL overview sessions.
